So one of the sacred animals of Mars was a specific woodpecker called Picus, and as I'm talking to Steve about an upcoming familiar, one of the ideas was to pursue the storyline of his connection to Mars.
Here's the wikipedia link to some of the reasoning behind the powers.
Right now I need you guys to take a look and tell me if it is too powerful and basic give it a once over.
So here's the gist:
Picus Martius
Magic Might: 40
Size: -6
Int +1, Per +3, Pre +1, Com +1, Str -12, Sta 0, Dex +3, Qik +7
V&F: Improved Characteristics x2, Magic Animal, Proud, Oversensitive (Small Size)
Qualities: Accomplished Flyer (Athletics (Flying) 5), Fast Flyer (+3 flight speed), Sharp Ears (+3 Hearing)
Magical Qualities:
- Flames of War (any Creo or Rego Ignem spells up to level 25, 1 Might per Magnitude)
- Spirited Stallion (turns into a magnificent, jet-black horse with a fiery red mane)
- Augury (Influences a group of people towards a specific course of action/towards a specific location. It works like the Virtue Common Sense, replacing the common sense with the Picus' goal)
- Weather Oracle (Tells the weather for the next 10 days)
- Nourishing the Land (Equivalent of The Bountiful Feast, Ritual Power)
- Rising Ire (as the spell of the same name)
- Gift of Speech
- No Fatigue
- Improved Might x4 (to get to 40)
- Major Virtue: Fire Immunity
- Minor Virtue: Homing Instinct
- Minor Virtue: Voice of the Forest (speak to all woodland animals)
There are 6 more points to spend on Magical Qualities, if I'm not mistaken, and I had thought about transforming into a she-wolf (another sacred animal to Mars, female in reference to the one who took care of Romulus and Remus), transforming a human into a wolf (same idea), turning into a fire bird (not coated in, literally made of), granting strength/prowess, destroying wood (the picus' beak was told to pierce through even the hardest bark with a resounding crack), thunderwave (same idea, maybe like crest of the earth wave spell?). There is also the (very interesting) possibility of improving existing powers, like making them less costly and so on.
Anyway, this is the general idea, and this would be a magical creature, despite Mars being ostensibly a Faerie God (most theories put the Olympians as Faerie and the Titans as Magical), but there is a story reason for it.
Let me know what you think, specifically in regards to power level, because it is a bit high.
Then again, characters are getting very strong too...
